Media Training Sessions

Duke encourages its faculty members and others to reach out beyond the campus and share their expertise with a broader audience. An effective appearance in a newspaper or on the air reflects well not only on you, but on your department and the university as well. Each winter, the Office of News & Communications holds a two-and-a-half-hour media training seminar to help people learn about how to become more effective in this process.

The seminar includes discussions and handouts on how to handle an interview and become a source for reporters; how to write an op-ed article; and how to balance media outreach with other academic priorities. There are also opportunities for several attendees to sit in the TV “hot seat” for a mock interview.
